Virgin

The word "virgin" appears 33 times in the King James Version and 41 times in the New International Version. The Hebrew words thus translated are "bethuwlah" and "almah. The Greek word is "parthenos."

Isaiah prophesied about the virgin birth of our Lord, a sign unique in all of history: "A virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isa 7:14). (Compare Luke 1:31-35.)

A virgin is one who has not had sexual intercourse. Jesus was not produced in Mary's womb as a result of sexual intercourse with a man (Mormonism claims that Mary had sex with Adam). Nor did Mary physically have sex with God (as Islam claims). Jesus Christ's conception was a special and unique miracle of God.

The Zidonites (Sidonites) are referred to as a figurative "virgin" by Isaiah (23:12), "O thou oppressed virgin." Jeremiah refers to Israel as a virgin gone astray (Jer. 18:13).
